{"id":710,"date":"2013-06-23T18:36:12","date_gmt":"2013-06-23T22:36:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bethadonai3.web802.discountasp.net\/wordpress\/?page_id=710"},"modified":"2013-06-23T18:36:12","modified_gmt":"2013-06-23T22:36:12","slug":"tish-bav","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/bethadonai.com\/?page_id=710","title":{"rendered":"Tish B&#8217;Av"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma; font-size: large;\">Ninth of Av<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Tisha B\u2019Av, the ninth day in the Hebrew month of Av, usually July or August marks a day of tragedy, sadness, and fasting for the Jewish people. \u00a0On this same day in history a series of calamities are linked in a supernatural way, beyond the realm of coincidence:<\/p>\n<p>1. \u00a0Traditionally, this is the day the spies sent out by Moses to explore Canaan returned with a false report, believed by the people in spite of the exhortation of Joshua and Caleb. \u00a0For this they were punished by wandering forty years in the wilderness. \u00a0However, the rabbis predicted in the Talmud that for crying over the false report, the Jewish people would cry on that day for generations to come.<\/p>\n<p>2. \u00a0In 586 BCE the First Temple was destroyed by the Babylonians, led by Nebechadnezzar. \u00a0100,000 Jews perished, and millions were exiled.<\/p>\n<p>3. \u00a0On the same day 656 years later, in 70 CE the Second Temple was destroyed by the Romans, led by Titus. \u00a0Again many Jews died and were exiled.<\/p>\n<p>4. \u00a065 years later, in 135 CE, the Bar Kochba revolt was crushed by the Roman Emperor Hadrian. \u00a0The fortress of Betar, a Jewish stronghold, was liquidated and over 100,000 Jews were slaughtered.<\/p>\n<p>5. \u00a0The Temple area and its surroundings were plowed under by the Roman general Turnus Rufus. \u00a0Jerusalem was rebuilt as a pagan city named Aelia Capitolina, and access was forbidden to Jews.<\/p>\n<p>6. \u00a0Pope Urban II declared the First Crusade. \u00a0Tens of thousands of Jews were killed, and many Jewish communities were obliterated.<\/p>\n<p>7. \u00a0In 1290 this day marked the first nation-wide rejection of Jews when the official decree expelling them from England was signed.<\/p>\n<p>8. \u00a0On the same date in 1492 one of the greatest upheavals in Jewish history occurred when the large Jewish community in Spain was expelled.<\/p>\n<p>9. \u00a0Jews were first ordered into a ghetto on this date in 1555 when the Jews of Rome were ordered to live in a district near the Tiber.<\/p>\n<p>10. \u00a0W.W.I broke out on Tisha B\u2019Av in 1914 when Germany declared war on Russia. \u00a0German resentment from the war set the stage for the Holocaust.<\/p>\n<p>11. \u00a0In 1941 on the same day Reinhard Heydrich was ordered to carry out the \u201cfinal solution\u201d for European Jewry.<\/p>\n<p>Not all the calamities for the Jews occurred on this day, for history records too many for an entire month of Tisha B\u2019Avs. \u00a0The important thing to remember on this day is not man\u2019s inhumanity to Jewish people, but that God has preserved His people in spite of the best attempts of Ha Satan.<\/p>\n<p>This day is mentioned in scripture:<\/p>\n<p><\/span><b><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Zechariah 8:19<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: small;\">This is what the LORD Almighty says: <\/span><b><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&#8220;The <\/span><\/b><b><i><span style=\"font-size: small;\">fasts<\/span><\/i><\/b><b><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> of the fourth, <\/span><\/b><b><i><span style=\"font-size: small;\">fifth<\/span><\/i><\/b><b><span style=\"font-size: small;\">, seventh and tenth <\/span><\/b><b><i><span style=\"font-size: small;\">months<\/span><\/i><\/b><b><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> will become joyful and glad occasions and happy festivals for Judah.
